This is something that would really help if you were playing Kaufmann in The Tales the of Hoffman.You can't improvise when it comes to learning music theory. You need to study and practise regularly. During puberty, for example, the voice breaks during and your range will become deeper. The Main Types of TessituraWhile there is some overlap, the voices of men and women are generally classified differently and are part of a scale from the lowest vocal ranges of men to the highest vocal ranges of men.  Within these ranges, there are also several subdivisions.From the lowest male ranges to the highest, the male vocal ranges are as follows:The bass range goes from E2 (the second E below middle C) to E4 (the E above middle C).The baritone range goes from A2 (the second A below middle C) to A4 (the A above middle C) like Marcello in La BohèmeThe tenor range goes from C3 (one octave below middle C) to C5 (one octave above middle C). Before You Start Your Singing Lessons...If you want to succeed in music as either a classical or modern singer, you have to at least have a good voice.After that, you’ll have to study some music theory in order to have a deeper understanding of music just like an instrumentalist would and work out your voice type in terms of pitch, timbre, and the songs you're capable of singing.Your musical ear needs to be worked upon regularly as well as studying the main composers in terms of vocal music: Beethoven, Britten, Gluck, Gounod, Rameau, Vivaldi, etc.  There are also a number of radio stations and places you can go to if you enjoy religious music.With the right singing teacher, you never know where your performances will take you. (Source:  pixabay.com)You should also ensure that you can sing in key before you even consider trying to expand your range.   Additionally, you’ll also need to have good elocution and chest voice and have mastered vibrato and diaphragmatic breathing.  It’s important that you train yourself to sing without having to force yourself.Your abdominal muscles and nasal cavities can be just as important as your ears and throat when it comes to becoming an exceptional singer.  Additionally, you’ll need to have stage presence and be able to act as well as you can sing.That said, you’re not going to just burst out of a music workshop and start and start singing motets under the direction of a famous composer in the world’s most famous opera houses.  There’s a huge difference between singing your first light opera and performing the biggest roles on the best stages. Additionally, there’s also opéra bouffe. Learn to Sing the Low NotesAs with all art, you need to do things in order.  Before you start trying to learn to reach the high notes, you need to cover the basics. The low and middle notes. If you do n’t do this, it’ll be a disaster. All your hard work will be for nothing if you don’t do things in the right order.If you run before you can walk, you’ll end up with ugly and weak high notes and your voice will waver and you’ll struggle to improve. You need to start with the main notes of your range and only start to broaden your range once you’ve learned to masterfully perform these notes.Once you’ve managed that, you can more on to more complex exercises. A singing course or singing lessons could help a lot at this stage.Before you perform any music, you have to make sure you warm up your voice: make sure your throat and mouth are ready for singing so that you can perfectly operate them in order to sing in key and have the kinds vocal qualities that move people.You should drink a lot of water and avoid dairy products so that your body is completely ready to sing. Exercises for Reaching those High NotesA knowledge of keys, a metronome, and singing lessons are all real ly useful to make sure that when you’re singing, you’re singing correctly and not picking up any bad habits before you put on your big show.The amplitude of your voice comes from your throat which needs to remain low. You can do this by making sure it remains relaxed. Never move your jaw forwards as this amounts to exertion. Make sure than when you sing, you remain relaxed, composed, and in key!You should also work on deep breathing and your posture in order to reach some of those high notes successfully.You should also consider vocal warm up exercises for the vowels you’re going to sing. There are a number of singing exercises that you can use daily and your private tutor will probably suggest their favourites. The vocal cords need to be able to tense and relax without too much difficulty.You should consider vocalising. First start with a low note and go up in semitones. You can use a piano to help you do this.It’s also important to ensure that your vocal cords are comforta ble. Self-Promotion â€" Personal Marketing â€" Working To Get Ahead:   Whatever it’s called:   What are you doing to let people know your value? Two of the biggest issues I see with Self-Promotion (or whatever term you’d prefer to use) are: 1- not doing it 2- attitudes about Self-Promotion. I’d like to persuade you to eliminate both issues from your reality.   Let’s take these in reverse order. Attitudes and Reasons to Abolish Them “My work speaks for itself”.   No, it doesn’t. You may do amazing work but how is anyone going to know unless you do something to deliberately draw attention to it?   Anyone in the public has had to do Self-Promotion from rock stars to authors. “It’s my bosses job to know my contributions”.   Again, no they are here to evaluate your work and set direction.   Your job is to help them do both things.   Managers are notorious for not digging and if that’s the case, there will be a huge number of things they won’t learn.   Not good. “It’s bragging”.   Not if you learn the difference between bragging and self-promotion.   They are not the same. “It’s prideful”.   Pride is not bad until there is too much of it.   We are all proud of our work and we all need recognition for it.   Hiding it will only make you lonely and ignored. Not doing it Don’t really think about it.   I’ll score you one on this.   Sometimes, we don’t think about Self-promoting but now that you’re reading this, you can’t ignore it anymore. I don’t know what I’d say.   Now we’re getting somewhere.   How about a project or performance update to those that really need to know? I can’t get a word in during meetings. I understand.   If you’re the quiet type like me, it’s tough but there are other ways to communicate your worth.   How about office drop ins? Hallway chats? You’re nervous at the thought.   OK, here’s the deal.   You must bring some skills to your job, right?   How will anyone know how you can help if you don’t fully educate them?   How will you get your next job?   Yes, this is a Self-promotion approach but it’s also helping others. Types of Writing Your Teen Needs to Learn Learning to write well is an essential skill that your teen will use just about every day in high school. Most subjects incorporate writing into their curriculum, and all teachers have the expectation that students are adept at communicating this way. As teens prepare themselves for college-level academics, they must be proficient and versatile writers, able to convey their ideas and arguments clearly and coherently. But different assignments and projects call for different kinds of writing. Here are a few types your teen must master during in high school: Essays The essay is very common in high school. Essays require students to analyze, speculate or interpret something from their own perspective. Depending on the goal, high school teachers assign a variety of essay types: expository, compare and contrast, persuasive and descriptive, to name a few. No matter the type of essay, your teen should be comfortable planning, writing, editing and revising his or her work by introducing and developing a topic and making any claims or opinions clear and compelling. Your teen must be able to establish the desired tone and bolster any claims with evidence and good reasoning. Fiction and nonfiction stories Storytelling is another type of writing that your teen will learn in high school and something that will come up on those college admissions essays. Narrative techniques will help your teen paint a picture, introduce and develop characters and/or the setting, and convey concrete and abstract details to push a plot (or nonfiction story) forward. This kind of writing takes creativity and a lot of planning to bring words to life. Sensory language and the little details can make a tremendous difference in building tension, interest and/or excitement. Informative writing With informative or explanatory writing, students introduce a topic, offer facts and examples, and incorporate details. Put simply, this type of writing is all about explaining something clearly (e.g. a complex concept) or answering a factual question. Your teen will be asked frequently throughout high school to prove his or her knowledge about different subjects in this type of formatin longer report form or via shorter responses. Project reports The main purpose of a project report is to share research on an assigned topic. Research papers become especially important (and more common) in college. That said, your teen might have projects arise throughout high school wherein he or she is asked to research a topic, synthesize information and present it in the form of a cohesive, coherent report. Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of writing that your teen will be exposed to in high school. There are also other types like reflective journal writing, book or story reports, lab reports in science classes, and more. Bottom line: knowing how to write effectively is absolutely critical in high schooland something that your teen must practice. The reality is that writing does not come easily to all students. These are words that look like they should have the same meaning, but dont. Often times this can lead to funny or embarrassing situations, so its good to know them. Example: I actually just arrived from the office. If you want to say atualmente you can use the words today,  currently,  or nowadays. For example, The United States is currently recovering from a recession.2. Assistir Assist.In English assist means to help or give support to someone or something. Example:  I assisted the medics with the rescue of the woman.  If you want to say assistir you can use the words attend, watch, or partic ipate. Example: I attended the parents and teachers meeting last Saturday.3. Balcão Balcony.In English balcony is the outside viewing area that is attached to an apartment or home. Example:  Our balcony is off our living room and overlooks the park.  If you want to say balcão  you can use the word counter. Example:  The plates on the counter are clean.4. Costume Costume.In English costume is a disguise worn on the stage or at parties or for special occasions. Example: Im wearing a clown costume for Halloween.  If you want to say costume with the Portuguese meaning,  you can use the word custom or tradition Example:  We have lost many of our customs in the United States.5. Data Data.In English data  means a collection of information and facts. Example:  I need all the data on the case before I make a judgement.  If you want to say data with the Portuguese meaning, you can use the word date. (note: the e is silent and the a is long. It sounds like dayt) Example:  Our wedding date is October 5th.6. Designar Design.In English design as a verb means to plan the form and structure of something. As a noun, it refers to the plan for something. Example:  I love the design of Apples phones.  If you want to say  designar,  use the word designate. Example: She was designated as the new President of the company.  7. Educado Educated.In English educated can be used as a verb to describe giving knowledge or schooling. Example: I was educated in a private school. Or it can be used to describe someone that has some schooling, can read, write, do math or has some special knowledge in specific areas. Example: Mike is a Harvard educated lawyer. If you want to use the word educado you can say, polite.   Example:  Mary seems really polite, she always says please and thank you.8. Enrolar Enroll.In English enroll means to register or to put on a record/list (see assistir). Example: I enrolled in my college classes yesterday. If you want to use enrolar, you can say to wind up, to roll up, or to curl up. Example:  Please wind up the cord and put it in the bag.9. Êxito Exit.In English exit is the way or passage out of a building, plane, bus, etc. Example: It is important to know where the exits are in a plane, in case of an emergency.  If you want to use the word êxito you can say success. Example:  Success comes from a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck.10. Esquisito Exquisite.These two are very different! In English we use exquisite to describe something that is very beautiful and and often delicate. Example: This wine glass is exquisite. If you want to say esquisito, say weird, strange or unusual. For example: The book has many really weird characters that do bizarre things and make it quite an interesting story. 11. Esperto Expert.In English an expert is a person who has special skills or knowledge. Example: They needed an expert in hydro-geology to understand when the river could flood. If you want to use the word esperto you can say cleve r or smart. Example: She is a very clever person, she always has a solution and something witty to say.12. Fábrica Fabric.In English fabric  is the general word for a cloth made by weaving or knitting. Example:  I didnt buy the shirt because I dont like synthetic fabric. If you want to use the word fábrica you can say plant or factory. Example:  Many car factories have left the United States and moved to other countries where labor is cheaper.13. Gripe Grip Gripe.In English grip  is grabbing something with your hands tightly in a strong way. Example:  Help, my grip is slipping, I cant hold on to the rope, Im going to fall!   We also have the word gripe (pronounced like ripe). It means a complaint. For example: He has a lot of gripes about the service quality of our restaurant. If you want to use gripe you can say cold or flu. For example, Ive had a terrible cold for 5 days now.14. Injúria Injury.In English injury is when a body is harmed or damaged by something. For example, The football player had a knee injury and couldnt play in the world cup.  If you want to use the word injúria you can say insult. Example:  She cried after she heard the mans insult.15. Legenda Legend.In English, a legend is a traditional story whose facts are unverified. Example: Greek legends have been influential in literature for a long time. If you want to say legenda, youll want to use the word subtitle. For example: It is a really good way to practice your English to watch a movie in English with English subtitles. 16. Livraria Library.We use library in English to describe a place, usually ran by a government or a university, where you can borrow books for a short time at no charge (biblioteca in Portuguese). For example: We go to the library every week with our daughter to check-out books. We use book store for livraria. For Example: I dont go to the book store often because I read most books on my e-reader. 17. Lanche Lunch.The English word lunch  is used to describe t he mid-day meal (almoço in Portuguese). For example: I always have lunch at noon. We use snack  to say lanche. For example: Im hungry lets get a snack before the meeting, maybe some fruit would be good. 18. Novela Novel.We use novel as a noun to describe fictional books, and as an adjective to describe something new or unusual Example:  The novel had a novel character.  If you want to say novela  in English, use soap opera.19. Parentes Parents.In English we use parents to  refer  to our mother or father, as a group or without referencing gender. Example:  My parents live in St. Louis. A parent needs to give permission for a child to leave the country. You want to say parentes  use the word relatives. For example: I have relatives in Brazil, a couple cousins and my aunt and uncle.10. Particular Particular.Exact same word, two meanings! In English, we use it to talk about a very specific part of a group. Example:  The law was designed to punish a particular group of people. We als o use it to describe something with extra emphasis Example:  The ball hit him in a particularly painful place. If you want to say particular  with the Portuguese meaning, use personal, or private. For example: Infidelity is a private matter even if the people involved are famous. 11. Preservativo Preservative.This one has the potential to lead to some funny/embarrassing situations! In English we use preservative  to describe food additives that help prevent spoilage. If you want to say preservativo  in English, use condom.12. Push Puxe.Similar sound, opposite meanings! Push means to use force to move something away from you. We use pull  to describe puxe  the opposite motion using force to bring something to you.13. Pull Pular.As if the last one wasnt confusing enough! Pull is also a false cognate. When new Executive Director Daniel Hollinger arrived last year, he found himself needing to hire 35 new English-speaking teachers from around the globe. The Challenge Since Modern Knowledge Schools is committed to hiring experienced and certified teachers from the US and Canada to deliver their US curriculum, increasing competition for international educators has made this difficult. The school’s only visa requirement is for international teachers to hold a bachelor’s degree in education. But they’ve found that their comparatively low compensation package significantly narrows the pool of candidates who are interested in working for them, since experienced teachers are able to make more elsewhere. So, they got creative by widening their net to include more inexperienced teachers and those from English-speaking countries outside the US and Canada. But for Daniel and his staff, providing the best education for their students still meant spending a huge amount of time and energy to find the best teachers possible. Searching for the right candidates, Daniel tried attending recruitment fairs, but found that Modern Knowledge Schools struggled to compete for teachers’ attention against schools offering more money.
